RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 278161

People

(Reporter: rahulsince1983, Assigned: bugzilla)

Details

(Keywords: intl)

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0

If I key in this path in firefox address bar "C:\ \abc.txt", instead of opening
the file abc.txt firefox says:
"The file /c://abc.txt cannot be found. Please check the location and try again."

Here, abc.txt resides in a folder which has a blank name (created by "alt+0160"
combination which is a "space character" in unicode)

But we can very well access the folder if we manually browse in firefox in the
following steps
1.type C:\
2.then click on blank folder
3.then click on abc.txt

Also, I would like to add that such folder names work flawlessly in IE and
Windows Explorer.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Create a folder in C:\ and rename it by pressing alt+0160.
2.Create a file abc.txt in the above folder such that - C:\ \abc.txt
3.Try opening the file in Firefox by typing out the entire path - C:\ \abc.txt

Actual Results:
I get this error:
"The file /c://abc.txt cannot be found. Please check the location and try again."

Expected Results:
Firefox should have opened the file abc.txt

The bug occurs on WinXP and Win98 with Firefox 1.0, Mozilla Suite and also on
the latest nightly build (6th feb).

However, the Firefox 1.0+ -(Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.8b)
Gecko/20050206 Firefox/1.0+) cannot even open the "blank folder" even on manual
browsing. That is by keying the address in the following steps...
1.C:\
2.alt+0160

At step 2. itself it gives the error
"The file /c:/ cannot be found. Please check the location and try again."

I guess it is related to bug 162361, bug 278161, bug 263570. Similiar problems
for Mozilla Suite.

Ya, I did search and found a couple of bugs related to this "non breaking space"
problem, but none were concerned with the address bar. Maybe I missed some.
Perhaps. ;)
I can confirm this bug with Deer Park Alpha 2, Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows
NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b3) Gecko/20050712 Firefox/1.0+. I believe that this bug
should be marked as a duplicate of bug 278161.
Marking so. Feel free to change the dupe or reopen if this was wrong.
