Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0

This is a problem of Sunbird "thinking" it's a browser. If Sunbird is open, but
Firefox is not, when I click a link in an application such as AIM or Eudora,
Firefox doesn't open. Rather, Sunbird opens a new calendar window.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Close firefox
2. Start sunbird
3. Click a link in any other application
4. Note that Sunbird becames the application in the forefront and that there is
a new calendar window

Actual Results:
A new calendar window opens.

Expected Results:
Sunbird should not have grabbed the URL; Firefox should have.
This looks related to bug 255951 and bug 257088. However, WORKSFORME on WinXP,
can someone with Mac OS X test and confirm?
Can't reproduce on Windows Server 2003 x64 with nightly trunk build 20050814.
Suggest adding helpwanted to whiteboard.

I have the same problem, although if Sunbird is open but the calendar window is closed, it won't open a new window but just shifts focus to Sunbird.

I'm running Mac OS 10.3.9, Firefox 1.5, and Sunbird .3a. I had these issues with Firefox 1.0.x and Sunbird .2 as well.
Maybe this is related to Bug 323288? It looks like Firefox and Sunbird use the same kind of identification stuff so that Mac OS can't distinguish between both programs. Maybe a Mac expert can anwser that question.

The Macintosh uses so-called creator codes which should uniquely identify applications. Bug 323288 points out that Sunbird unfortunately uses the same code that Firefox has (MOZB). I proposed using MOZC instead. In his attachment (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?id=208398&action=view), Stefan Sitter proposes what looks like an appropriate change in the source code to solve this problem.
