Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041201 Camino/0.8.2
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041201 Camino/0.8.2

I'm using camino 2004120113 (v0.8.2)
I clicked a Usenet URL and got "news is not a registered protocol"

Reproducible: Didn't try

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Surf to http://sendmail.org/
2. Scroll down to Primary resources for learning about sendmail ...
3. Click on comp.mail.sendmail at the first sub-bullet

Actual Results:
news is not a registered protocol

Expected Results:
take me there, read news group
i'm surprised this doesn't work, i thought we whitelisted news when we
whitelisted the other protocols.
Target Milestone: --- → Camino0.9
This is essentially a duplicate of bug 269065 (but less complex in the
work-around required).

Opening that news: link in Safari produces the "first-time for this url scheme"
dialogue asking me if I want to open MT-Newswatcher (after I installed it).
Clicking on the news: link thereafer in Camino launches MT-NW as expected.

The root cause of the two bugs is the same--Camino is not showing the "first
launch" dialogue and is instead simply reporting the protocol is not registered
(news: might be whitelisted in Camino, but it's not in the OS apparently, in
case one doesn't have a newsreader installed).

This case is less complex than the Eudora one because switching default apps for
the protocol seems not to be required to get things working again in Camino.
