User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b) Gecko/20050211
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b) Gecko/20050211

I just noticed form my newly installed nightly build that the page info window
won't show up at all. I minimized all windows to ensure it is'nt just out of
focus. I also restartet the programm (checked task manager no mozilla.exe is
running) and the error persists. Neither right click -> view page info neither
view -> page info neither crtl + i will show it. There is no sign of any
reaction except when using the key short cut the cursor will change to half busy
until I move the mouse a pixel.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start Mozilla
2. visit any Page
3. try to open page infos

Actual Results:
nothing happend at all ^-^

Expected Results:
open the window to show the page infos like encoding, URL, cached size etc.

Theme: classic
I see/have the same problem on a recent build (2005021005) under XP Pro SP2.

do you see any error messages in JS console?
open Tools->WebDevelopment->JavascriptConsole

did you install extensions, or do you have extensions installed?
There are no errors/warnings in JavaScript console.
I noticed that there was an empty line for each not shown page info in the menu
Window. When I wanted to focus it, the main window unfocused, but nothing was
seen. Pressing ESC refocused the main window and the prejor selected empty line
was gone.
But when I wanted to check the plugins, I killed the process of mozilla againn,
renamed the folder aand the window showed up again. Then I wanted to track down
which plugin it is, but... now the window opens even with all plugins, but on
this page there where not many infos so I visited
"http://www.rpg24.net/board/index.php" and after clicking the ad away the view
page info doesn't show up again. I hope this might help.

I use Modern Theme with Mozilla 1.8b build 2005021005 under XP Pro.
When I first load the browser application, I can View/Page Info or Ctrl+I and
the page info modal window will pop up. But on a second try (and following
tries), it will not work.
I checked the js console and no error, warning whatsoever. I think we would need
to have
Edit/Preferences.../Debug/Show chrome JavaScript errors and warnings
checkbox checked to see related errors.
I use extensions but I get the same bug when testing in a new profile.
I just installed build 20050212, problem still there.
Gérard Talbot seems right. I can open it once... then it will only make this
empty line, then when I kill the empty line window with ESC I can open 1 page
info again. If I kill visible page info with ESC the next one will still open as
ghost and this will continue untill I ESC-kill all these ghosts or completly
restart the browser.
*** Bug 282202 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
Still happening in build 2005021405. Adding regression keyword.
Keywords: regression
I can't reproduce this bug. I actually suspect that the problem isn't with page
info, but unless I can reproduce it on my own machine I can't do anything. What
extensions do you guys have installed? Have you noticed anything else odd
happening? When did it stop working?
> What extensions do you guys have installed?
I see the bug even with a new profile. Remember to try to view the page info
more than once: as I said, the first time, Page Info window shows up but on the
second attempt, it does not.

> Have you noticed anything else odd happening?
Yes. Minor JS console bug (that's bug 282253, bug 281766).

> When did it stop working?
Around the same time as the preferences window stopped working. Around Feb. 7th
and 8th AFAICT. See bug 281608, bug 281521 ("regressed between 20050207-07 and
20050208-01").
Summary: window page info doesnt show up → window page info does not show up

I highly suspect that you did have extensions installed, which are partly in
your profile, rest gone by installation of your new mozilla.
I know that there are extensions adding tabs to PageInfo, I use one myself, from
time to time.
What you have listed in comment 3 are plugins, not extensions. Currently only
Firefox has an extension manager, using Mozilla you must know what you have
installed, or look into your profile or some other places.
Extension LiveHTTPheaders uses three folders in my profile: chrome, components,
icons. There are some other extensions too in chrome.

I can use PageInfo as often as I want to, tested here on this bug page.
It should display 'Headers' between the tabs 'Media' and 'Privacy', that tab
from extension LiveHTTPHeaders shows a message telling me I got to register the
extension. That should have been done by the installation, but sometimes fails.

The reason for failing is, that I didn´t install it, I just killed the programms
folder of Mozilla and unzipped a new one, so all info about the extension in the
program folder got lost.

to register I´ve got to copy a file from its backup location in
profile/components/ to the program directory mozilla/components/ and the delete
compreg.dat and xpti.dat, and at next start these registries will be build
again, registering the available components.

I can imagine your downloadmanager also intercepts the pageInfo logic, so I
would suggest to deinstall Fresh Download, see FAQ at
http://www.freshdevices.com/faq.html, and the try to get PageInfo going.
When you´ve got it working, you can try to install the newest one, from Jan
28th. http://www.freshdevices.com/news.html

But please solve your PageInfo problem before.

Two links showing how to deinstall extensions:
http://bookmarkshome.mozdev.org/installation.html
http://extensionroom.mozdev.org/more-info/mnenhy

Tons of links to profile knowledge:
http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=54104

Before you start tinkering with your profile, make backup copies of mail and
profile, no need to make a backup of the cache, as data in the cache doesn´t
matter, it automatically gets lost when it is stale, or place needed.
De Kus, do you use or have you ever used/installed autoscroll? I have and I have
seen some javascript warnings related to it. Also, my overlays.rdf file contains
this:

  <RDF:Seq RDF:about="chrome://navigator/content/pageInfo.xul">
    <RDF:li>chrome://p3p/content/pageInfoOverlay.xul</RDF:li>
    <RDF:li>chrome://pippki/content/PageInfoOverlay.xul</RDF:li>
    <RDF:li>chrome://autoscroll/content/autoscrollOverlay.xul</RDF:li>
  </RDF:Seq>

when I thought I had uninstalled autoscroll.

That would make sense.

Or you could use extension uninstaller.

It's not that easy when one does not know xul and rdf.
sorry for late reply, yesterday my DSL Modem died ^-^.

Okay, back to answers:

last build I used before I noticed was 20050205. I am not 100% sure I didnt
have, but I use this window often, I would to 99.9% have noticed it ealier ;).

sorry for the missunderstaning with extentions and plugins ;). I dont have
installed any extensions... I only installed the nightly build over the German
(Austria) translation, but the chrome folder is pruned every install of the
nightly build so there are only defaults included with these builds here. I also
checked with the mentioned extention uninstaller, there is none installed into
my profil either.

btw. just reproduced bug in 20050215 with empty plugin folder (which means
freshdownload is uninstalled atm. the bug is showing up. the dl manager doesnt
use any memory resitenz program, everything triggered with mime types by the
plugin).

regarding the JS console issue with empty message after clear, happening for me too.

regarding the issue with the prefrences window, I also go to advaced -> system
to remove the links to images after each install. I haven't noticed something
odd on the way doing this.

The only other issue I am expiering is, that within the mail client sometimes
when selecting a folder it doesnt show its content and just keeps show the one
before (sorry, couldnt find a bug entry regarding this).

tell me, if you need any further informations.
> last build I used before I noticed was 20050205. I am not 100% sure I didnt

Well, that concurs with my timeframe too. Even if I was mismanaging extensions,
how come you have the same buggy behavior and it showed up around the same
dates? It is highly improbable that this would be a coincidence.
I uninstalled every extension I could, even created a new profile and the
problem still reappears consistently. The thing is that this problem may not be
damaging or noticeable if you happen to consult the Page Info once in a while.

> regarding the JS console issue with empty message after clear, happening for
me too.

That's another distinct, separate bug.

> regarding the issue with the prefrences window, I also go to advaced -> system

That is another distinct, separate bug.
I'm moving severity from normal to critical since clicking the yellow padlock
icon in the status bar no longer brings up the Security tab anymore, explicitly
because of this bug. Today, I needed to verify the connection (encryption level,
authentication of server) because I needed to disclose personal sensitive info
and I could not because of this bug.

Also requesting blocking 1.8b2.
Severity: normal → critical
Flags: blocking1.8b2?
Version: unspecified → Trunk
De Kus, I downloaded and installed build 2005021705, created a new profile and
the problem disappeared. Can you do the same? If it works for you, I'll resolve
the bug as WORKSFORME. Ok?
Sometimes the Page Info window isn't appearing for me with Mozilla trunk build
2005021105 on Windows XP. When this occurs, I get an extra blank item in the
Windows menu, and selecting that item does nothing except make the browser
window lose focus. I get no errors and warnings on the JS console. I have no
extensions installed. I'll re-test with a more recent nightly and a new profile.
Just installed 20050218
After checking a bit, I am sure the problem is fixed for me now. I made sure the
bug was still an issue just before I installed the new version.

FIXED is when you know which patch fixed the bug. Here, we do not know.
