I am running mozilla seamonkey 1.8a6 on several machines, all PCs 
running WinXP, Win2K, or Win98SE.  I frequently notice that as I 
type into the search bar at the top of the mail/news folder 
contents pane, the messages in the folder list pane are not 
filtered as I type. I have to press enter to get the filtration 
to occur.  

Other bugzilla bugs that are not specifically about this problem
make reference to it, e.g. bug 277884.

What build ID(s) are you running when you see this?

I have seen the same problem intermittently over the months (with Windows 2000).
My sense is that the problem is intermittent even with the same build, but I 
don't have a hard observation of that.  FWIW, I don't see the problem right now 
with 1.8b-0120.

In my original "summary" of this bug, I called it the "search bar", 
because that is what mozilla calls it in the View menu, e.g. 
View->Show/Hide->Search Bar

Perhaps it is called "QuickSearch" in TB, but this is mozilla 1.8a*,
and the term "QuickSearch" does not appear in mozilla 1.8a*.

I have seen this in all the 1.8a* versions.  I run 1.8a4 at work, and
1.8a6 at home, and see it both places.  

I agree that it is intermittent.
It seems like mozilla gets into a "mode" where it behaves this way, 
and tends to stay in that mode when it gets there.  I see mozilla in 
that mode more often than not.

Some time ago I switched to 1.5a (trunk) builds. 
I do not recall seeing it since I made that switch.
I do not know if it is still present on the 1.8 branch, or not.

Wayne, This bug was reproducible for a long time (many months).  
Now it's not. I'd say it was fixed.  But I don't know who or how.
It could be resolved WFM or FIXED.

Likewise, I haven't seen this symptom in quite some time.
