User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0 The first time I downloaded something and saved it to my hard drive, I believe I was given the ability to specify what directory (folder) I wanted items to save to. Since then I have not been given the option to save a download to a different directory. I'm also unable to change the filename of the download prior to saving to my hard drive. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Select a downloadable file from a Web site 2. Use "Save to Disk" option 3. Click "OK" button Actual Results: File I'm downloading saves to the directory I used the first time I used the Download Manager. To complicate matters further, there is no visual indication where the file is going. Expected Results: I should be presented with an option to save the file to a directory I specify (most likely via a browse button). It would also be nice if I could at that time create a new directory in whatever place I've chosen for the file. Finally, I should be able to rename the file for download before saving it to disk. I'm marking this as an enhancement, but I consider it a fix because the missing functions are an important part of the file download ability. Just an FYI: I did search extensively through the bug reports and did not find a report which clearly addressed what I'm describing. I don't want to complicate matters for you and very much hope I did not.

This is configurable in Tools->Options->Downloads . Are those options not working?
These options are not working under certain conditions on the trunk. See Bug 284089. If this is your problem reporter please mark as duplicate of that bug.
I think that automatically downloading to a certain folder is supposed to be a feature, but I agree that when the options are shown it is rediculas to not have an option of where to save to.

Marking INVALID, the option exists, and there are no plans to change the default. Any problems with the option not working on the trunk are for other bugs, like bug 284089.

The original submitter suggested a "save as" or "browse" option, which is what I want as well. I found two bug reports that specifically ask for this, 244961 and 281955. I am very new to bugzilla, so I don't know how to make the bug IDs a link. Is HTML allowed?

For those who read this: the "bug" reported is NOT a valid bug. I simply had not yet found the way to tell Firefox I wanted to specify the directory I wanted downloads saved to. Sorry to have wasted people's time. RICHARD SHEWMAKER
