User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0 I subscribe to a computer magazine which has a cover cd. The cd is accessed by a browser interface. My problem is that the download manager will not allow me to run the programs on the cd, since it assumes that the exe file is actually on the 'net (since it is accessed via firefox) Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Insert cd 2. Autorun fires up firefox 3. Navigate to "install program", select "install" 4. Download manager kicks in and asks for save location. It will not allow me to run the install file 5. In desperation, I "download" the exe file and install from HDD 6. Delete install file. Expected Results: Ask me if I want to "run file from present location" or "save file to my computer"
So you're saying it should detect that the file is already on a local hard drive and not try to download it.

bug 249951 would make it a bit easier to run thenm directly, but you want to avoid the download, right ?

This is an automated message, with ID "auto-resolve01". This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code. While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug (given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more reproduction information if you have it. If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved. Thank you for your help in this matter. I tried it again, using Firefox 1.0.7. Still the same. This is not a critical fault - there are work-arounds, but it would be nice to click on a link and have the selected program run automatically, as they do under IE. But I suppose if I want the security of Firefox, I have to put up with the inconvenience.

Since this bug has not been updated in almost 2 years, I suggest that Scott try upgrading to Firefox 2.0.0.4. If the problem still persists, please reopen the bug.
