Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0 The Menu option Message / Ignore Thread is disabled (greyed out) if multiple messages are selected in the Thunderbird newsreader (v. 1.0 (20041206) downloaded today), even if within the same thread. The keyboard command (K) is also ineffectual. I would like to see Ignore Thread work on a thread when any (subset of) messages within that thread are selected. Additionally, I note that: 1. I would like to see Ignore thread within the (right click) context menu as noted in https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=233182 and https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=223280 2. When I press K (to mark a message as ignored. The following two things do not happen if I am using K to unignore the thread): A) the focus within the Message List pane jumps to a seemingly uncorrelated message (sometimes it's the next one below but in other cases it's several messages away). Possibly this is related to my View / Sort by preferences (Order received; Descending; Threaded). B) the thread is collapsed. I would argue that marking a thread as being ignored is a View statement that applies to future sessions and not this session. I may very well want to continue to review the message (or adjacent message to what) I'm focused on. My installation is very vanilla. The only changes I made in setup is to set my sorting preferences as mentioned. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: I am a pretty simplistic reader of newsgroups. When I get new messages, I usually mark most of them (grouped by thread) to be ignored (so I don't see them the next time). If I can't wholesale mark threads to be ignored, this would make scanning newsgroups very expensive in time.

When I press K (to mark a message as ignored[...]): > A) the focus within the Message List pane jumps to a seemingly uncorrelated > message (sometimes it's the next one below but in other cases it's several > messages away). Like, maybe, to the next *unread* message? If that's not what you're seeing, that would be worth a separate bug report. > B) the thread is collapsed. I would argue that marking a thread as being > ignored is a View statement that applies to future sessions and not this > session. I may very well want to continue to review the message (or adjacent > message to what) I'm focused on. FYI: This is the opposite argument from bug 224634, which argues that the entire thread should be completely hidden immediately on pressing the K. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 249037 ***
