RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 11040

People

(Reporter: bugzilla-jf172, Assigned: mscott)

Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0
Build Identifier: Mozilla Thunderbird version 1.0 (20041206)

I would welcome a simple action on the Filter Rules dialog to skip notifying a
user, so that when an incoming message matches the rule, Thunderbird does NOT
pop up the general new mail notification message or add the new messages icon to
the system tray as a result.

This would be a nice touch for processing messages like e-mail newsletters and
automatically generated notifications, which the user might wish to read later,
but probably doesn't want to be distracted by when they arrive. We get a lot of
these from various systems at work, and it gets quite frustrating switching back
to Thunderbird every time a new mail comes in, just to check whether it's
something I need to read now.

Note 1: If other messages arrive simultaneously that do require notification,
any skipped message could just be ignored (or counted separately) when
displaying the number of new messages.

Note 2: Personally, I'd still want to have skipped messages marked as unread by
default, since there's already another action available to mark the message as
read if you want to.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
