Might be a dupe of Bug 64401. The comments mention gifs but the summary does not.
Seems to be the same bug, yes. Can confirm that here too, under Windows XP+Sp2,
512MB RAM, PentiumIV@1.6GHz, Firefox 1.0.1.
I ran across the very same webpage...;)
Backgroundimages defined in the body or css (css-file) very stagnates scrolling
(all html) and usage of forms.
The CPU (iPIV, 2.6 GHz) run's at 100%.
Testet with Firefox 0.9.3 / 1.0.1 German under Windows XP Sp1.
Go to www.edealinfo.com the page loads very slow and we cannot scroll. It seems
the browser is stalled. In IE the behavior is very different the scrolling is
smooth event when the browser is downloading images.

Scrolling is fast and fluid for me.
Duping to bug 64401, paying attention to comment
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=64401#c52 and on.
