I am using the Firefox extension of sunbird and a remote WebDAV calendar via
https with an out of date selfsigned ssl certificate. ;) Reload remote calendars
does _not_ update 'My Calendar' but adding a new event does, prior to uploading
the new information, with all the nitty gritty things like: do you really want
to connect even so this certificate has expired? Really really? (strange, it
asks two times) And entering my username/password combination.
Reproducible: Always
Expected Results:
It should have reloaded the remote 'My Calendar' via the https URL and asked me
'do you really want to connect to this expired ssl cert?' and my
username/password in order to be able to access this URL.
I found this also - if you delete the calendar, and then add it again using
"File" > "Subscribe to remote calendar", then CTRL-R and other Reload triggers
work as expected.

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.7.8) Gecko/20050511
Firefox/1.0.4
Firefox Calendar Extension 0.8.3+
I can confirm the exact same behavior as described in this bug report. I am
removing all of my calendars are "subscribing to them" as this allows the
refresh to function. Adding "new calendar" does not allow them to refresh.
Thanks for the work-around . . . lets hope this bug is fixed soon.

I think this is WORKSFORME by now. The password is only asked once per session. Update works for me also over an encrypted channel. (Tested by changing content by another app). If there have been no changes, there is also no update because of empty server response.
