Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0; .NET CLR 1.0.3705) Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0 I tried to open the http://gmail.google.com webpage, but I get an alert indicating that www.google.com could not be found and that I should check the name and try again. When i tried to access the website on a Internet Explorer window, the page loads without a problem! This means that the google server is available! Also, my connection settings on Firefox and IE are exactly the same! When i tried to log this bug on bugzilla.mozilla.org, i got the same alert message as i got for gmail! I am filing this bug report from the IE browser! Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Launch Firefox browser 2.type URL 3.Click on GO Actual Results: An alert message box pops up with the yellow ! symbol and the message "gmail.google.com could not be found. Please check the name and try again." Similar alert indication for the bugzilla sight too (with the URL differing in the message!) Expected Results: Loaded the page!

You probably need to check the FAQ sheet and other troubleshooting resources for Firefox.

This is wfm for everyone else -> wfm Please ask in the mozillazine.org Forums if you need end-user help. This sounds like you are using a firewall or a proxy with adblocking or something else.

I am unable to follow - http://www.google.com does not load on Firefox (i get the message indicating that www.google.com could not be found...), but I am able to get thru to the google site on a parallel IE window!!! Both of them (IE and Firefox) are on the same machine and the google page is being accessed at the same time. IE shows the page and Firefox does not! All connection settings are exactly the same on both the browsers!

Both of them (IE > and Firefox) are on the same machine and the google page is being accessed at > the same time. IE shows the page and Firefox does not! All connection settings > are exactly the same on both the browsers! I just searched the bug database and see that bug id 279381 is similar to the problem i am experiencing! If FIREFOX is the only browser on my machine, I am effectively blocked from checking my gmail mailbox and this could be a potential show-stopper issue! Again as I mentioned earlier, this very bugzilla page to report bugs is not loading from Firefox!

Unfortunately Bug 279381 is also going nowhere. As comment 2 suggests, this is highly unlikely to be a defect in Firefox hence the suggestions to seek out troubleshooting resources. If you really want help from me, I suggest (as in Bug 279381) that you first verify your DNS system and next create an http log. I would agree that Firefox might provide more detailed diagnostics when DNS fails, and a clear statement that web browsing depends on a working DNS system.
