Right now, the only error message you get when send fails is "Send failed". We
need more informative messages. Did it fail because
- the host was down? timed out? not found?
- the host refused the connection/refused to relay?
- no such user?
etc.

Minor UI fixups to M18. If this is incorrect, please adjust.
Target Milestone: M17 → M18
Moving to future milestone. I really like this suggestion, since I think
additional information would help to diagnose the problem, but I think we have
bigger problems to solve for Seamonkey.
Target Milestone: M18 → Future
A good error message tells the user what when wrong and why. And how to recover
from the error.

What kind of error messages would we have the ability to display based on
responses from the server?

I'm using DSL on the mindspring network, and they block all outbound SMTP on
their network that doesn't go to their mail servers.
I noticed that using mozilla 0.8 that if I send, both the send event and the
saving to an IMAP saved folder silently die. I don't know what sort of firewall
method is used for blocking (maybe it just discards), but I found today I've
been losing work releated mail.

changed plat & OS to "ALL"
I'm renominating for nsbeta1 and nsdgofood because the other day, I lost mail I
was sending Lisa. Since she is the director, losing mail I sent her was not
something I was happy about.
I have started to use Outlook Express for sending mail on remote network. Its
worth noting that this problem happnes on the mindspring/earthlink network,
which is something like the world's 5th largest ISP.
When this problem happens, combined with the failing IMAP save, you end up
effectively sending your mail into a bit bucket.

marking nsbeta1- and nsdogfood-. Ben, the bug you are reporting doesn't sound
like this bug to me. Your bug sounds like we are not even reporting an error.
Could you open another bug on this?

sheelar and asa and I discussed this bug a lot today.
I'm moving it to a new bug because it is pretty messy.

We are much better now about reporting error, especially SMTP one. I'll mark
this bug as WFM.
