Open Firefox.
Do File / Save Page As
Type foo into the File name field
Ensure the Save as type is: Web Page, HTML only
Click Save

Do File / Save Page As
Click foo.htm
Click on it again (to change the file name
Type foobar.htm
Click Save

You get an alert message (titled Save As) saying:
pathToFile\foo.htm already exists.
Do you want to replace it.

Notice that at this point the Save As dialog box shows that the name of the
previously saved file is foobar.htm (which can be confirmed by opening up
Windows Explorer), and that foo.htm is showing in the File name field (as the
new file to save).

This error message is incorrect and should not appear.

Firefox/1.0+

This sounds like a platform/OS problem. I can't click on a file in a Save As
dialogue to copy the name for editing.

Do you have the same problem in any other application?
My apologies, you are correct.  I have now checked this on Notepad with the same
results.  This is evidently a bug in the Save As dialog box routine(!) and not a
Firefox issue
