I actually have the same behaviour since Firefox 1.0.1. Platform: windows XP Pro, hp pavillion, 1GB Ram, Firefox 1.0.1. What I did was: 1. Install FF nighty build 26/2 over FF 1.0 -> all sorts of problems 2. Install FF 1.0.1 over nightly 3. Renamed the mozilla folder to mozilla-old 4. Installed FF 1.0.1 again in the now empty mozilla folder. What I see is, that the first instance of FireFox is not useable, meaning: - The main menu does not react on mouseclicks neither ALT-x . - When I click in the address bar and start typing, nothing happens. - Home page is not loaded. But, as soon as I start a second FireFox window ( from the quick-start menu, not with CTRL-N, that second window again works as normal! But in my case, since this problem was solved as soon as I uninstalled the SAGE 1.3.1 plugin the problem was gone. Plugins installed: - Disable Targets for Downloads - AdBlock - FoxyTunes - RadialContext I filed this as bug 9347 for the Sage extension, it is not clear to me where this bug is originated.
This has nothing to do with download manager. Try quit mozilla or firefox (it is unclear which build this report refers to) - then open Norton Internet Security console and edit the firewall: Delete all occurances of Mozilla and firefox there, to force it re-create the rule for those apps. Then restart and try again. Any change?
Component: Download Manager → General
Reporter: Check your firewall settings and proxy settings. Does it help?

from reporter: I had to completely remove my Norton Firewall & Antivirus applications. Then re-install them. This also proved to be difficult. But yes, Firefox now appears to work - except I have lost all my bookmarks. David ps - there should be explicit instructions to delete previous versions when updating - OR it should automatically be done when updating. I did not do so - because I had previously read it was not necessary. So it was the firewall. Resolving.
