Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; fr-FR; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20050105 Debian/1.7.5-1
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; fr-FR; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20050105 Debian/1.7.5-1

When i launch mozilla and i have got no more space on my root partition
(especially for creating directories /tmp/[user]-orbit) , mozilla can't
handle the error by closing the main window and displaying a short message like
"No more space left in device".

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Fill your root partition
2. Just start mozilla
3.

Actual Results:
Mozilla becomes a defunct process, the window stays on the desktop, and can't be
closed. No data losses.

Expected Results:
Mozilla should close its main window and display an alert messagebox "no more
space on device..."

Did this happen on launch, or whilst browsing?

You probably want to see Bug 228978 "bandaid for disk full dataloss problems -
warn user on start up that disk is nearly full and data may be lost"

It happens on launch, the main window just stays on the desktop as a dead
window. Nothing is displayed. It occurs when 100% of the disk is full, not
nearly, probably because temporary files that must be created don't need a lot
of disk space.

I am not going to claim that your report is a Dup of Bug 228978 , because
that bug is about data loss, and yours isn't.

It is possible that you were unable to create a needed directory.

Personally, I think that Firefox should not attempt to launch if the
relevant filesystem(s) is/are more than 90% full (Bug 236153 Comment 4 ),
on general principles, but I seem to be in minority.

I suggest that you either find a Bug to Dup against, or state clearly
what you want this Report to achieve.

Mozilla should display an alert messagebox if the filesystem is more than XX%
(default 90%, but it will be nice if the user can specify another value). This
bug has got the same origin as Bug 228978 (no more space in partition(s)), so it
can be considered as a dup even if the result isn't the same.
