Crash Data
This crash appears to be happening for Firefox 1.0 users too, but I didn't
notice it until I realized almost every Talkback report for this Flash stack
signature for Firefox 1.0.1 mentions www.espn.com. See all "espn.com" crash here:
http://talkback-public.mozilla.org/talkback/fastfind.jsp?search=1&searchby=url&match=contains&searchfor=espn.com&vendor=All&product=All&platform=All&buildid=&sdate=&stime=&edate=&etime=&sortby=bbid
Here is a recent incident for 1.0.1:

Looks like this really first spike a few days ago...so it appears that the new
Nike ad at the top of the front page might be the reason.

crashes. Tried installing newest version it did the same thing.
Almost all of the rest say the same thing. Is there anyone that can contact
ESPN.com and see if they can help us test this?

I have been unable to reproduce this with Firefox 1.0 or 1.0.1 (using Flash
version 7,0,19,0).
Without Flash, similar images for the Nike ad are displayed (and the ad can be
expanded) with JS. After taking a quick look at the page source, I'm wondering
if the check for Flash in the JS code might have something to do this.
According to the latest Talkback data, this crash did not occur on or before
2/26. The first instance started on 2/27...so a change on espn.com that day
definitely looks suspect and most likely exposed this crash.
URL: http://www.espn.com/
Version: unspecified → 1.0 Branch
It was crashing for both a coworker and me on 2/28 with Firefox 1.0.1 and Flash
7.0.19.0, so I added the following to userContent.css:
--- cut here ---
/* Hide problematic ESPN ads */
embed[type="application/x-shockwave-flash"][src*="adsatt.espn.go.com"]
{
visibility: hidden !important;
}
--- cut here ---
That stopped the crashing. Today I removed this code and can go to ESPN.com
without a problem, so it was very likely one particular ad. I searched my cache
for the offending Flash, but I didn't find it.

Marked as WORKSFORME because of many reasons:
1) The Talkback report IDs have rotted.
2) ESPN has likely changed their website since 2005, and certainly cycled out the offending ads.
3) Firefox 1.0 is long since dead.
