Recently NTL's mail server has been intermittently down. If I sent an e-mail
using Thunderbird it appears to go. If, however I revert to Outlook it tells
me that there is no connection to the mail server or the connection is
disconnected whatever. This has led to a couple of e-mails going astray
somewhere. Outlook holds the e-mails in the outbox until they can be sent. I
have not seen this facility in Thunderbird.

Reproducible: Couldn't Reproduce

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Only by disconnecting the cable modem can I simulate the mail server going
down
2. My network error message also comes up in these conditions and it tells me
in these circumstances that the connection has failed.
3.If I disconnect the actual cable I do get the error message.

Actual Results:
I did get an error message

I contacted NTL tewchnical support and they confirmed the problem with their
mail server
Here's at least a workaround for the time being:
If your mailserver is down switch Thunderbird into offline mode:
File -> Offline -> Work Offline
Make sure Thunderbird sends held-back e-mails when going online:
File -> Offline -> Offline Settings...
Send unsent messages when going online? -> Yes

Now when your mailserver is back up switch Thunderbird back to online mode and
it will try to send the held-back messages. HTH.

This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that
bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are
highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code.

While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we
are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce
this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a
copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and
you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug
(given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more
reproduction information if you have it.

If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not
changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved.
