Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install Firefox 1.0 2. Delete some search plugins (like Yahoo or Amazon) 3. Update to Firefox 1.0.1 Actual Results: Previously deleted search plugins were re-added. Expected Results: Not modify the list of search plugins installed (neither delete nor add any search plugins when updating from a previous version).

dont really know how this bug should be marked since this should be fixed onces searchplugins and plugins is moved into the profile. Thats the reason this happens right now because its in the main firefox directory and the folder gets overwritten when you upgrade so whatever you delete beforehand that comes default will be installed again.

An additional annoyance of this default search installation policy is that any manual revisions to the affiliate code in the Amazon search plug-in (amazondotcom.src) are overwritten by the installer during any upgrade. Inserting an affiliate link by default is forgivable where none existed before, but repeatedly overwriting explicit user changes with mozilla's affiliate code feels disappointingly close to the behavior of lesser browsers and, to some extent, spyware. This relates to the Amazon-specific <A HREF=https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=259717">Bug 259717</A> as well.

The locations of the searchplugins folder causes this behavior, Bug 123315 should resolve this issue. Mark as duplicate?
