User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8b) Gecko/20050217 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8b) Gecko/20050217 I'm unable to send attachments with any of my mail messages. The delivering message dialog will freeze anywhere from 3% to 96%. I've tried a variety of file sizes and it doesn't matter whether it's a 12k file or 2 meg file. After some time a "Sending of message failed" dialog appears. I have been able to send attachments with outlook express on the same system with the same otugoing SMTP server. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Create a new mail message 2. Add and attachment and send the email 3. Doesn't send the message Actual Results: Same as I described in the details Expected Results: It should have sent the message with the attachment and placed it in my sent folder.

Maybe you can attach a SMTP log as described under http://www.mozilla.org/quality/mailnews/mail-troubleshoot.html#smtp?

I tried following the instructions on that page, but all that mozilla does is load the text file and display it in the browser window. No mail log is created in the MacOS directory. Does the text file have to have a specific file extension?

Emails any larger than this will not send.
The attached file apparently represents what the actual problem is. It's not
just attachments, it's any email slightly larger than this one. The delivering
message dialog freezes at a varying percentage from 3% to 94%. The problem also
occurs with a freshly installed version of Thunderbird on the same system

i had the same problem and the Problem was a timeout caused by my AntiVirus Software. I solved the problem by increase the value in mailnews.tcptimeout under about:config. I set this value to 99999 Since this changed the Problem is gone.

Thanks for the suggestion Carsten. Unfortunately that didn't work. In fact I'm now having the same problem on Thunderbird on both my system and my bosses computer. We're running OS 10.4, but the outgoing messages always freeze at differing percentages. My bosses system stops sending the messages at 87% It continues to be that any email larger than a few Kb will not send.

have you tried disabling your virus checker? I'm not 100% sure the tcptimeout was in 1.8b, but I think it was. Does about:config show the pref?

I'm running on Mac OS 10.4. There is no virus checker, or viruses for that matter, on the system.
