User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (OS/2; U; Warp 4.5; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041220
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (OS/2; U; Warp 4.5; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041220

When using the quick search in MailNews to filter the messages, it sometimes
does not work : if I type some text, nothing happens and the clear button is
still greyed out. I did not find when this behavior happens nor a workaround for
it (except using the search function...).

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1. launch MAilNews
2. Expand the account tree and click on the chosen directory.
3. try to use the quick search function to filter out the results

Actual Results:
nothing, that's the problem...

Expected Results:
filtered the results in the directory

I have seen this bahaviour with previous versions of mozilla, whatever the theme
is. I can upload a screen shot of the problem if necessary.

having typed "issue 1" in the quick search bar, the "issue 2x", "issue 3x",
etc... should not appear and the clear button should be available, but it is
not.
Do you use any version of Mozilla other than OS/2? Can you test it there?
I do have the windows version running on VPC/2, but I do not use MailNews with
it (it is just for browsing sites that require plugins unavailable on OS/2)...
I don't have mail/news on another OS but have seen this on OS/2. If you type
the search and hit enter it will do the search. Then delete the stuff out of
the search and hit enter and it will clear... the buttons just do not always
become clickable.

I am seeing this bug for the first time on Windows 2000 with release 1.7.10. I
use this feature many times per day and did not see a problem prior to 1.7.10.
It is consistent. The quick search does seem to work when I follow the search
text with the Enter key. Prior to 1.7.10 the Enter key was not required.

In 1.7.10 on Windows is this related to bug #300749? When typing text in the
quick search, it does deselect the message, but leaves it showing in the message
pane.
Is this a dupe of bug 107000? It could also have been solved by bug 135326/bug 263180 that landed in October. So can one of the heavy MailNews users tell me if this is still an issue? (Moving from 1.7 branch to trunk as this will not get fixed on the branch any more.)
Version: 1.7 Branch → Trunk
I haven't seen this issue on the Trunk for quite a while now myself.
I do not know if this is related to this bug, but now in SeaMonkey v1.0 (general build, not Peters) when I type something in the Quick Search box, the 'Clear' button never gets activated, although the Quick Search function now works (now need to hit enter). The text can of course be deleted manually (but the 'clear' button makes the deletion faster).
See the screen shot I just did.
That the clear button is not activated is a different bug though (either bug 325817 or bug 286367).
As I could never really reproduce this nor did it seem OS/2 specific, I can only ask:
Is this still any issue with SeaMonkey 1.1 or Thunderbird 2.0.0.x?
