We haven't built with gcc for a long time.
Unfortunately I don't have access to an HP-UX
machine any more, so I probably won't be able
to help much.

In this particular case, we don't need that
assembly file, so you can work around this
as follows:
1. Edit mozilla/nsprpub/configure, and add
   a "#" before the line:
           PR_MD_ASFILES=os_HPUX.s
   to comment it out.
2. Edit mozilla/nsprpub/pr/src/md/unix/uxrng.c.
   Replace the line
       cr16val = ret_cr16();
   by
       cr16val = 0;

This should get you past this problem, but I am
sure you will run into other build problems.  In
particular, NSS (mozilla/security/nss) has several
assembly files that are really being used.

Possible solutions include:
1. Figure out how to enable gcc to assemble
   os_HPUX.s.  This may require adding a gcc
   version of that assembly code.
2. Figure out how to use /usr/ccs/bin/as to
   assemble os_HPUX.s.  This requires setting
   the "AS" variable appropriately in
   mozilla/nsprpub/configure.in.

I regret that I won't be able to implement
either of these solutions.
