RFC? Sounds like bloat and a waste of time. You can already use the middle mouse button to open tab in new link directly. And your request would in effect disable the context menu, where "open in new tab" already is an option. I fail to see why this would be useful and you provide no reason. Recommendig WONTFIX

This would basically eliminate the context menu for links -> WONTFIX
Yeah, lack of a way to open the context menu shoots this down...
