User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.7.6) Gecko/20050225 Firefox/1.0.1
Build Identifier: Mozilla Thunderbird version 1.0 (20041206)

After adding a second SMTP server in menu "Tools/Account settings/Outgoing
server (SMTP)/Advanced" and setting it as Default server, the eMails will still
be sent the first SMTP server in the list, i.e. the "Default" setting for
subsequent SMTP server accounts doesn't work.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open menu "Tools/Account settings/Outgoing server (SMTP)/Advanced"
2. Press "Add", enter new SMTP server, press OK
3. Press "Set Default"
4. Send an eMail.

Actual Results:
The eMail will be delivered through the first SMTP server in the list.

Expected Results:
It should have used the SMTP server server in the list set as Default (not the
first one).
Are you sure that your e-mail accounts (identities) use the default server?
Perhaps they use a specific server like the first one.

Your hint was very helpful - thank you. Obviously a added the new SMTP server
entry after adding the new eMail account. The consequence was, that for the new
eMail account the old default SMTP server was chosen (as I figured out checking
the account's "ServerSettings/Advanced/SMTP" register). So changing the default
SMTP server doesn't mean a change for all existing eMail accounts, but only an
initialization value for eMail accounts to come.
So my question is: "Is it a bug or is it a feature?". I understood the default
SMTP server setting as effective for all existing eMail accounts. If this never
was the intention it should be clearly pointed out, e.g. in the "Advanced
outgoing (SMTP) server settings" dialog. Currently there is only a warning "...
Setting up multiple SMTP servers can cause errors when sending messages." which
is obviously right but doesn't help in this respect.
My suggestion is to abandon the "Account settings/<account>/Advanced" dialog and
putting it's few settings (for "SMTP"/"POP") directly into the account settings
dialog. What confused me was that I overlooked the "Advanced" button, otherwise
I would have recognized my mistake immediately when I inspected the account
settings.

So this "bug" is solved and may be turned into a change proposal. For I am a
newbie to Bugzilla, can you please tell me, what to do, to change the status
accordingly? Just change it to "Resolve bug, changing resolution to WORKSFORME"?
Thank you in advance!
Normally you can set in the account settings "use default smtp server". If you
change it later, it should work.
