There is no "stop" button to stop sunbird from loading. This feature is
included in browsers and thunderbird, it should be in sunbird too. It is
important because if there is a problem loading a remote calendar sunbird
becomes useless.

Reproducible: Always
Yes, I agree, that could be useful.
However, I think the severity should be changed from 'critical' to 'enhancement'.
Confirming as an enhancement request, with some tweaks to the summary. As I
understand it, this is referring to a 'stop' button for reloading remote
calendars. A 'stop' button for importing is bug 202445.

I'm not the reporter, but I was thinking more like a
stop-whatever-is-being-done-right-know button.

Hey!!Can I work on this??
This doesn't seem like a good first bug, nor do others you have flagged. Maybe you can pick one from https://www.joshmatthews.net/bugsahoy/?calendar=1&simple=1 instead?
This isn't my first bug, and moreover if it's good to go, then is it ok, because I have the comm-central cloned with the build ready?
I didn't mean to incline that this is your first bug ever, I'm sorry if it came across that way. As every new project has its own quirks, new contributors usually start with a "good first bug" of the respective project to get accustomed to it. If you feel this is not necessary and you can easily get started with new large projects, great!

I'm happy to support you with fixing the bugs you've left a comment on, maybe we can start with one? Do you have a specific bug you want to work on first?

Regarding this bug, it would be helpful to define what the "stop" action intends to be. The original reporter complained that Sunbird stopped working if there was a problem with calendars, a state I am certain we have been able to fix. Reloading remote calendars should fail gracefully and continue to allow Lightning to work.

Regarding the stop-whatever-is-being-done-right-now button, I suspect this would be a button that stops refreshing during the process, e.g. by cancelling network requests, stopping the import of events, etc.

Fixing it will require some fairly elaborate interface design changes, because right now we don't really have a way to cancel the reload remote calendar action. It will require support within the providers to roll back to the last milestone, or if supported by the server to accept a partial set of changes. It will also require storage provider support.

So in short, I think there is some discussion needed for this bug to determine if this is really a feature we should provide given the complexity required to implement it by determining what use case the stop button should fulfill.

If you want to discuss the remaining bugs you flagged, I'd suggest you drop by on IRC #calendar, my nick is Fallen.
