upgrade clobbers previous install-time prefs

Details
I was prompted to upgrade from Mozilla Firefox 1.0 to 1.0.1 by the automatic update service. Despite being an upgrade, it wanted to do all the annoying defaults for a fresh install: - create start menu icons (in the default location, after I'd already moved them to a more sensible location after the first install) - create a quick launch icon (which I had already said no to the previous time) - perform a standard install (thus excluding all the optional components I had selected on the last install: developer tools and problem reporting tool) - clobber my home page It is ridiculous that I should have to select "Custom" install and invert most every check box to get the existing behavior. If a completely separate installer must be used to perform the upgrade, then it should at least read my previous settings and default to those.

Reporter, please can you change this to enhancement. It is definitely not a major bug. Please read the bug reporting guidelines (http://www.mozilla.org/quality/bug-writing-guidelines.html) to provide a more useful bug report in future.

I also notice that my fonts were reverted to the defaults (Times New Roman, Arial, Courier New, 16 pt), but don't want to reinstall to confirm. This is a major annoyance and possibly a dataloss bug. To trivialize this as an enhancement is to disregard your users.

Ray: Do you run Linux and therefore not care if the installer has problems on Windows? For what reason do you brazenly point to the bug writing guidelines? If you could provide some rationale as to why this is merely an enhancement, such comments would be much better taken.

No, I don't run Linux. My Firefox and Thunderbird Installs of of the Windows flavour. The reason why I pointed you to the bug writing guidlines is that "upgrade clobbers previous install-time prefs" is not the best title for a bug. Something like "Upgrade from 1.0 to 1.0.1 does not select preferences" makes it a little easier for the developers to understand what is wrong. Also, if you read the guidlines it would help you decide what category the bug must be filed. This is definitely not a major bug either an enhancement or trivial. Because this is unrelated to the bug please contact me on my bugzilla mail account if you want to discuss this more. :)

The full install update package is a temporary hack. This but won't be applicable in future releases and we won't be making any significant changes to this behavior in 1.0 releases.
