I successfully imported my Outlook Express mail folders. I wanted to re-organise
some of them. I found that when I moved them, the folders got duplicated. Now I
cannot delete them. Sometimes they appear to move to Trash, but when Thunderbird
is restarted, they are back under Inbox.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Delete imported folder (contains many messages) and wait for Thunderbird to
finish moving folder to Trash.
2. Close Thunderbird.
3. Start Thunderbird - the folders are re-instated to Inbox.

Actual Results:  
Deleted folder no longer deleted.

Expected Results:  
Deleted folder to permanently move to Trash.

I have tried uninstalling Thunderbird, rebooting my PC, then re-installing
Thunderbird. The new installation picks up the old message folder information
and behaves as before (still won't delete folder).

yes, this is because of the missing .sbd directory, or .msf file, I can't
remember which.

It seems that you have to wait for all the messages in a folder to be counted
BEFORE you try to delete the folder. Otherwise the folder appears to move to
Trash, but actually gets duplicated when you restart Thunderbird. This effect is
only noticable when you import folder containing large numbers of emails. As you
click on each folder, Thunderbird displays a message in the bottom left corner,
saying that it is building a summary of the folder. After it has finished
summarising the current folder, the count of un-read messages is displayed next
to the folder name. Now the folder can be moved if required.
