User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.6) Gecko/20050225 Firefox/1.0.1
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.6) Gecko/20050225 Firefox/1.0.1

Some but not all secure pages, and occasionally non-secure pages (such as the
URL above) will bring up an alert window with "https is not a registered
protocol." Clicking OK will repeat the alert window, this time with "httpshttps
is not...." and repeated clicks will give "httpshttpshttps..." etc. The browser
window freezes and can only be closed with End Task.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Entered again the URL given above:
http://www.networksolutions.com/en_US/popexit/popstealth.html
2. Received the same alert window.

Actual Results:
Repeated clicking of OK or X to close the alert window only results in expanding
the message endlessly: "httpshttpshttpshttpshttpshttpshttpshttpshttps is not a
recogized protocol"; oringinal browser window is not accessible and has to be
closed (along with the alert) with End Task.

Expected Results:
Clicking OK (or X) on the alert window should have closed it and returned you to
the browser window.
Can not reproduce. I suspect something is broken in your install or your profile.
Please try with a fresh profile.

This page is not https, but it redirects to an https page, that redirects again
to a http page, so it's possible not to notice that intermediate page.

Clicking the URL given, I get a message that 4 pop-ups have been blocked and
nothing else.

I have seen something similar to the symptopms that the reporter describes
when my own Javascript thas been faulty. You might be missing the ':' after
https somewhere.

If it is considered essential that Firefox should resist DoS by rapid
repetitive errors that produce dialogues, then this may need a lot of
attention.

See Bug 253959 "Mozilla spawns multiple windows (invalid img src)" for
one case where erroneous (or in that case malicious code) can lock up
the user interface. There are dozens of bug reports where this is a
feature (sometimes a minor feature)

This is an automated message, with ID "auto-resolve01".

This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that
bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are
highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code.

While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we
are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce
this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a
copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and
you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug
(given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more
reproduction information if you have it.

If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not
changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved.
Thank you for your help in this matter.
