Bug 125386 changed some things in the View- and EventManager code which caused several additional changes on Windows and obviously MacOSX to be necessary. On OS/2 these changes causes crashes when dropping things within the same window. I will shortly attach a workaround discussed in the newsgroup.

A workaround posted in the newsgroup by Rich Walsh: do not handle drags when a drag is already going on. It stops the crashes, but of course it would be much better to stop the second drag to be fired in the first place.

I checked in the workaround. Leaving open in hopes we find the real problem.

Note that Thunderbird is still crashing when a message is dragged/dropped from Inbox to a subfolder - even after this fix is checked in.

I very much doubt that after more than half a year we will find the root cause of this bug. As in the GKLAYOUT crash bug we will have to live with a workaround. Marking FIXED.
