Hi Reporter I am a little confused You can only unselect text by clicking on other text. There is no text between the two hr's in your testcase, therefore you can't unselect. Comments ?
That's the problem I think, you should be able to deselect by clicking on something other than text. I saw one bug report on the selection not being deselected when you click on images but I think it should be more general than just that.

This was fixed on trunk on 2005-12-08, by the patch for bug 316281.
