TB 1.0+0316, Windows 2000

When a new message arrives and TB goes to show the little slide-up alert, my
entire screen goes gray. No mouse action does anything. I can use Alt-Tab and
view the task-switcher window, and I can Ctrl-Alt-Del, get a full, regular
screen and the opportunity to show the Task List (or logoff). Killing TB is the
only way to get back my screen.

The gray thing appears to be a borderless, always-on-top, full-screen window; I
can't (for instance) get keystrokes down to TB while it's displayed.

The first time, I logged out and logged back in; when I restarted TB, I noticed
the unread message in the Inbox and that gave me a clue.

If I turn off the alert, I get the expected tray icon with no grayed-out screen.
