I've tried with a couple of other command-keys in that situation, and some keyboard navigation like space for scrolling down, and it doesn't respond to them either. If I use the mouse or switch to another app and come back, Firefox responds to my key commands. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce:
I see this with an "unofficial build" Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8b2) Gecko/20050318 Firefox/1.0+ (PowerBook) I would like to make bug as new but I've been having many keyboard shortcut issues as of late... so I can't say its a bug for sure.
Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW
Ever confirmed: true
Summary: often unable to use command-key shortcuts → often unable to use command-key shortcuts
I was searching for a bug on this, but maybe I observe something else. What I observed is that the shortcuts don't work if a plugin is used. Reproduce: 1. open a PDF/movie/etc. in a window/new tab 2. use any command when having this page in front (e.g. command-W to close window; command-L to reach location bar) What happens: - nothing What I expect: - commands to be carried out Workaround: 1. Click into location bar 2. Do whatever you wanted to do (shortcuts work) It seems that the communication with the plugins doesn't work properly. On 10.1.5

I am also experiencing intermittent failure to respond to keyboard shortcuts, particularly Command-S. If I display the File menu (with a click) and let go again, Firefox then responds correctly to the keyboard command.

It also happens to me sometimes, now using Firefix 1.5 beta 2 on Mac OS 10.4.2... I particularly notice it with the Cmd-, shortcut for the prefs window: sometimes I have to press it twice to make the window appear, other times it doesn't work at all and I have to resort to the mouse. I've read about other users having such problems after minimizing Firefox to the dock, but I never do it; I only switch between Firefox and other applications with Cmd-Tab, but I didn't notice any relations between the two operations. Also Cmd-W for closing a Tab does not work sometimes in special web pages, e.g. where you have a movie shown by the Quicktime plugin.

I get this very frequently in firefox 1.5 running on OS X 10.4.5. It is supremely annoying.

I've found that this happens with tab selection for me - some sites will trigger it (but not always) and once their tab is selected, you cannot switch tabs using the cmd+number shortcuts until you switch tabs.
