I also cannot play video content which is embedded into a webpage. Firefox shows the request to download plugin. Video file is avi. I use Firefox 1.0.3 See Testcase: http://thephil2.homeip.net/pictures/displayimage.php?album=lasthits&cat=0&pos=2 IE works fine. I tried the ActiveX windows media player plugin - installation worked, I could play the videos on the "test installation" page", but it doesn't solve the problem for the Testcase. I tried RealPlayer - no success.
