This is an automated message, with ID "auto-resolve01".

This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that
bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are
highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code.

While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we
are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce
this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a
copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and
you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug
(given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more
reproduction information if you have it.

If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not
changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved.
Thank you for your help in this matter.

The latest beta releases can be obtained from:
Firefox: http://www.mozilla.org/projects/firefox/
Thunderbird: http://www.mozilla.org/products/thunderbird/releases/1.5beta1.html
Seamonkey: http://www.mozilla.org/projects/seamonkey/
i can confim this on 1.5 Beta 1 and 1.5 Beta 2. i cannot "Add Engines" to the
dropdown. I confirm the install with OK, but the new Engine isn't displayed!
Appears fixed in 2.0a1, if not sooner

Sorry, I take it back. It's fixed on trunk, but in branch you still have to relaunch sometimes to update the list with the new engine. Sometimes, however, it works properly.

Pam, were you able to reproduce that? Are you talking about the 1.8 branch, or the 1.8.0 branch? There should be no need to restart the browser after installing the plugin.
Sorry, I'm talking about a 1.8 nightly; specifically,

Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20060426 BonEcho/2.0a1

It works properly nearly all of the time, but at least once I saw the behavior described by the reporter: adding a plugin from the Mozilla "get more engines" page gave the standard confirmation dialog, but the engine didn't appear in the list until I relaunched.

I don't know precisely what circumstances caused the misbehavior, and I haven't been able to reproduce it since then. I wouldn't call it a huge or frequent issue, but it was enough to keep the bug open.
Probably best to file a new bug on that, then. This bug was filed on the old search service, and has a summary that no longer really applies.

This bug isn't really really relevant to the new search service.
