User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; SunOS sun4u; en-US; rv:1.8b) Gecko/20050223
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; SunOS sun4u; en-US; rv:1.8b) Gecko/20050223 2005030117

This is a Sun Blade 150 running solaris 9. Netscape 7 works perfectly.
I cannot see any cursor as I type this either. No cursor when typing a URL either.

Reproducible: Always

Expected Results:
cursor should be a vertical line/bar else I don't know where I am editing or
which window is even active.
Version: unspecified → Trunk
Further clarification:

When the cursor is anywhere on the screen it is visible but when you are editing
a text line it does not leave a vertical line where you last clicked. Thus it is
almost impossible to edit text.

I loaded the older Sun download site provided version 1.4 last night on the
very same machine and the editing cursor DOES work on that version and on this
very same machine and OS. However, the vertical line it leaves for editing is,
in my opinion, too faint. Somehow in this beta build 2005030117 the vertical
line is gone alltogether.
Summary: cursor not visible at all making editing bookmarks very difficult → editing cursor not visible making editing bookmarks very difficult
Further clarification:

Last night I installed the official Sun website release of Mozilla 1.4 on this
very same machine to verify whether the problem has appeared in only this new
beta test version (2005030117) and indeed it has.

There is a vertical editing cursor line left when you click in text you are
editing with the older release. It is however, too faint in color in my opinion.
And in this new beta version this vertical line is gone alltogether so the
problem has occurred in the development of the new release. Clearly this is the
very same machine and the very same operating system so that is not the problem.
Are you using 8-bit color by any chance?

reply:
Yes, this Sun workstation was purchased for non-graphics intensive work
therefore I only got the standard 8 bit graphics card. But Netscape shows a
nice black vertical line when editing text and the earlier mozilla build shows a
lighter color vertical line. Both of these are running on this very same
machine.

Ah, ok. We already have a bug somewhere on the caret being hard to see on
8-bit-color setups...
