User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-GB; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041110 Firefox/1.0
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-GB; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041110 Firefox/1.0
Currently, if one wants to save a webpage, one has to either save it as HTML
without any images or anything, or save it as a file with an attached directory
full of all the ****. I like to keep a virtual paper trail but, without
installing acrobat or something, the easiest way for me to get a proper copy of
a lot of webpages is to print them and then scan them in.
Ideally, for me, it would be similar to OpenOffice where one could simply click
the icon on the desktop and select a file location where the file could be
saved. From there a complete and self-sufficient file (in the form of a pdf)
would be created.
Perhaps the OpenOffice libraries could be used (?)
Reproducible: Always

Obviously, this would be great in Thunderbird as well for those occasions when
one wants to give a fairly fixed copy of an email to another, but this is less
important than I think it is for Firefox.

mconnor, wanna implement this for 1.1?

This would depend on bug 162659, which has been WONTFIXed. Though personally,
I'd *love* to see this feature.
Depends on: 162659

Other bugs suggesting this for Firefox have been duped to 162659, I dont see why
this one should be an expception. Duping.

Jose, I hadn't duped this one because one of the Mozilla peers was asking a
senior Firefox peer whether or not he wanted to implement this for Firefox 1.1.
I figured that mconnor would be a better person to decide whether or not to dupe
this one than you or I. Just because an idea was rejected in the past doesn't
mean that the decision is immutable.
Previous dupings notwithstanding (yes, I did check), I also did not dupe it
because from a technical point of view, the bugs are not the same. A bug filed
on the Firefox product would have covered implementing the UI for it, whereas
the other one filed in Core would have covered the backend implementation.
mconnor, can you either verify as a dupe or reopen accordingly?

dwitte has expressly asked mconnor to take a look at this. please don't dupe
until he's given his opinion.

Its a dupe, yes. bz is right that implementing this is a bunch of code we don't
want to carry, but an extension would be cool.
Another option is something like GhostScript, which lets any app "print" to a
PDF format.
