It might be helpful if describecomponents.cgi would also include a link for each
component which provides a sample list of appropriate bugs.  The textual
examples are good, but a list of, say, all bugs marked FIXED in a component in
the last month might provide a fuller description than anything else.

Bugzilla, as opposed to the Bugzilla product in general...?

The idea is interesting, but the timespan would have to be customized component by component and (if this bug is left in the Bugzilla product) site by site. For instance, at BMO I found as many as 18 bugs marked FIXED in the latest 30 days in "SeaMonkey::Preferences", but as few as Zarro Boogs in "Core::Networking: IMAP".

The machinery for producing this sort of searches is already present, so any installation of Bugzilla can do it with no change to the code. The problem would be to determine a "reasonable" timespan for each product, long enough to get at least one bug any time the query is run, and short enough to be not too much of a liability in terms of bandwidth and computation. OTOH, maybe preset buglists could be set, i.e., not searches but, for each product, a number of bugs deemed "typical" of that product?

adding a list of bugs to describecomponents.cgi was fixed in bug 194272
