The subscription to some folder FOO at an IMAP server gets not updated if the
folder is deleted (or renamed) by another mail client.

The deleted folder FOO also appears in the list displayed when changing
subscriptions for the entire server. The update button there does neither drop
the non existing FOO from the list nor does it mark it somehow.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create a folder FOO (and subscribe to it if not automatically done).
2. Delete FOO or rename FOO to GNU on another computer.
3. Restart Thunderbird.

Actual Results:
The folder FOO still occurs in the folder list though it does not exist any more.

Expected Results:
The folder FOO should disappear or a question about it (asking whether it was
renamed and what its new name is) should be raised. [Clearly tb cannot know the
new name.]
that's right, it doesn't. And some users would scream if we did get rid of
subscribed folders that don't exist, because they want to keep the subscription
but have the actual folder come and go...

If the other machine were to unsubscribe you, then we wouldn't show it to you,
right? Can you unsubscribe to the folder from Thunderbird, after it's been
deleted from the other machine?

This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that
bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are
highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code.

While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we
are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce
this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a
copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and
you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug
(given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more
reproduction information if you have it.

If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not
changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved.

I see this kind of problem in trunk version 3.0a2pre (2008060603).

I've subscribed to some public folder then I renamed this public folder and now I can't get rid of messages every time I start TB.
Current command did not succeed. The mail server responded: Mailbox doesn't exist: NAME_OF_NON_EXISTING_FOLDER.

I can confirm this problem with thunderbird 2.0.0.14 on Linux.

I delete a folder with evolution and then thunderbird still has it in the list of folders for subscription.
Its not displayed in the folder list.

The folder "deleted" was deleted on the cyrus server with cyradm.
Its not in the folder list of my email account but in the subscription windows.

It is not possible to get this ghost folder away with thunderbird.
I'm not sure what to make of this, but in my case none of the folders I'm unable to delete are or ever were subscribed (wsm0 account)
for me this is fixed with a newer cyrus imapd.
2.2.10 had the problem and 2.2.13 is fixed.

So maybe it is/was a cyrus problem for the other reported, too?
I'm on dovecot 1.0.15 and still experience these problems look for comment #4

Nikolay is this still the case
Long time gone for me, maybe Wayne can share his experience with that problem too.
deferring my thinking/testing on this until after TB3 ships. Probably also would be good for others to be able to retest on a quality v3.
Trusting Nikolay's WFM (comment 11)

anyone please comment if you disagree
