User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.6) Gecko/20050225 Firefox/1.0.1 Build Identifier: Firefox/1.0.1 In the context menu brought up by selecting some words on a web page and right clicking on them, there is an item in the context menu "Search Web For %s". Another useful feature would be to add more items to the context menu. For example, the user should be able to select a word, right click on it, and search Dictionary.com for the definition. This could be performed through a configuration menu on "Tools -> Options -> Advanced", where the user can add and configure items on the context menu. Anything that is in the search menu in the upper right hand corner of the toolbar should also be visible in the context menu. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Select a word on a web page. 2. Right click on the selected word. 3. Select item "Search web for..."

Reporter, there are extensions that do this, like DictionarySearch <https://addons.update.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?application=firefox&version=1.0&os=Windows&id=68> (not yet updated for 1.0.1 though).

Bug 287444 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug but the rationale for citing Dictionary Search and similars as a workaround to this and that request is invalid. Not sure about this but from people close to me, this is one of the least used features or unknow at all. Being able to perform the search with a selected search engine would add usefulness to this feature. And, it is basically about adding UI to browser.search.defaultenginename and browser.search.defaulturl
