but search works from http://bugzilla.org/cgi-bin/htsearch
just a guess, it probably has the wrong base URL in the hidden fields on the
search form or something

indeed, the form target was www.bugzilla.org instead of bugzilla.org.  The
mailing list stuff (and the search engine) are on a different physical box, thus
the domain matters. :)
