User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.6) Gecko/20050317 Firefox/1.0.2 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.6) Gecko/20050317 Firefox/1.0.2 I'm using thunderbird to read the RSS feed(s) from /. and from salon. there is presently no way to "login" and have thunderbird be aware of the login. Hence, I get ads on slashdot ( no big deal ) and I can't read premium articles ( such as the war room on Salon ) via their RSS feed even though I am a subscriber. When I click the login link, it launches firefox ( np ). I log in there ( using firefox ) but thunderbird still doesn't recognize the login. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.subscribe to an RSS feed from a site which has a login ID type situstion 2.pull the RSS feed 3.attempt to view/read a feed which requires your ID to be logged in Actual Results: I couldn't the the desired content Expected Results: the software, i.e. thunderbird, needs a way to recognize the login. does this mean thunderbird needs to allow cookies &/or read the browser cookies?
Try to add your username/password in the URL? e.g. http://username:password@www.example.com/index.rss
re: Try to add your username/password in the URL? I've tried it and it doesn't seem to do the trick, though it is still loading the feeds with the addition of username:password. yes, I did close thunderbird & relaunch one change: the password manager doesn't fill in the id/password for /. any longer. I assume it managed to pick it up because I entered on the page within thunderbird the first time it came up. btw, when I click "login" there, it launches a page in a new tab in firefox from the link. Of course, when I click "login" in Salon, it launches a new login page iin a firefox tab and the password manager does NOT capture it.
this is about missing cookie support in Thunderbird, read http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?p=788727 for more info. cookie support was implemented with bug 275131 and will be available in Thunderbird 1.1, read https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=275131#c4 I suggest marking this bug either WORKSFORME or DUPLICATE of bug 275131.
