I use more than one pop3-account, and more than 2 filters on each. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Marking my Inbox-Folder 2. Clicking on "Run Filters on Folder" Actual Results: nothing, no errormessages, no filterrunning Expected Results: Run my Message Filters on my Inboxfolder. Sorry for weak description. Thank you
Any errors seen in the JavaScript Console?
More info: I have more than 20 filters. Although the first filters I created do work, the newest filters don't work -- as if there is a limit on the number of filters you can have. It lets me add new filters, but they don't work. Thunderbird version 1.0.2 (20050317) on Windows XP Home. In answer to Mike's question: yes, there are errors in the js console: Error: preselectedFolder is not defined Source File:chrome://messenger/content/mailWindowOverlay.js It doesn't seem to matter whether I'm moving email to a top level folder or one that's nested. I get this error when creating the filter.
Error message recived whaen trying to run filters on IMAP account. "Applying filter mozilla-temporary-internal-MDN-receipt-filter faild. Would you like to continue aplying filters" When I click "Yes" I get more errors.. Any solution? I am using version 1.0.6 (20050716)
I have always experienced this problem, from version 0.8 through to 1.5 beta. Automatic filtering works fine, but when I want to apply filters manually to the Sent folder (since automatic filtering of outgoing mail is not yet implemented), I must do it one filter at a time from within the Message Filters dialog. the "Tools>Run Filters on Folder" command has absolutely no effect; neither does highlighting multiple folders in the Filters dialog and running them manually with the "Run now" button. I am also usung Win XP, with Thunderbird 1.5 (20051201). I have about 30 filters. I see no errors or other activity in the javascript console when I attempt these actions. This bug seems to be similar to bug 276556 and perhaps also relates to bug 303923.
Confirmed also on Seamonkey 1.0.1 , windows and linux. Very annoying.
Filtering has a bug, the bug is CONFIRMED but where is it ???? BASIC EXAMPLE: I have ONLY 3 filters. Fresh install. Never before used on this machine. One filter moves x y and z to "Folder1", only. (Correctly) One filter deletes A, B, and C. (Correctly) The other filter is supposed to move 'ebay' to folder "ebay", but does not. --> Here is the STRANGE, bug part. (As this user previously said), when you click "apply filter to folder" nothing happens. OK, now, if you DELETE the message, it skips the TRASH, and GOES INTO THE EBAY FOLDER (Where it was supposed to be in the first place). I have tried using all different methods, 'subject', from, to, contains only, is, you name it. THIS IS NOT ONLY FOR eBAY instances, there are a few @doamin.com's that will not work either, HOWEVER, all other @domain.com's work just fine ! Example, ebay@ballzach.com, doesn't work, BUT ebay1@ballzach.com DOES. ??? I hope I outlined the acutal problem without being too long. Thanks !
For me, message filtering is hit or miss, with no discernable pattern so far. I have 8 filters. Sometimes all of them work on my incoming mail, sometimes only some work. Running them explicitly on my Inbox, either one at a time or all at once (by the two methods available) works rarely, if ever. But at least running one filter at a time has some chance of working. Thunderbird version 1.5.0.10 (20070221) running under Win98SE, installed 2 weeks ago. (Previously using Outlook Express 5.5)

I experience this bug on Seamonkey 1.1.1 for Linux, so it's definitely not just a Windows problem and not just a Thunderbird problem. So I think this bug needs to be expanded to all OS/HW and targeted to the core.
I cannot run filters manually either. I did a lot of testing, and could not get the filter to run. I believe this worked in Thunderbird 1.5, so it must be new to TB 2. - Thuunderbird version 2.0.0.4 (20070604) on WinXP SP2. - IMAP account. Filters cannot be run on mail received previously in the INBOX. The filters do run on new incoming mail, and searches (with same criteria as filters) also work normally. No error in the Error console. I disabled all extensions, reverted to the default theme, closed TB, moved msgFilterRules.dat away and restarted TB. Selected an IMAP account and created a single new filter. msgFilterRules.dat now contains only: version="8" logging="yes" name="List Dell" enabled="yes" type="1" action="Move to folder" actionValue="imap://username@example.com/INBOX/Dell" condition="OR (\"List-Post\",contains,linux-poweredge@dell.com)" I select the INBOX, in which there are several mails with List-Post: <mailto:linux-poweredge@dell.com> in the headers. Nothing happens when I try to run the filter. I tried "Tools -> Run Filters on Folder", and "Tools -> Message Filters" then selecting the only filter and clicking "Run Now". I had done many tries before disabling extensions and re-creating a new single filter, and many tries after that. No filter has ever run in all these tries. (I mention this because I have seen several bugs about filters which run unreliably. In my case, it seems completely reliable: it doesn't ever run)
Bug author Juri wrote me 3/10/2007: "I just updated to 1.5.0.10 and there is no such problem anymore." So closing this bug WORKSFORME. Those of you who still have trouble - it may be a pain but recommend you create a new bug and put your details in your new bug. That is, if after examining the lists below you don't see an existing bug that EXACTLY matches your symptoms and steps to to reproduce. The reason I say that is many, maybe even most, filter problems are in the end not going to have the same root cause. (Or at least, not until it can be proven so through good diagnosis.) So having descriptions whose root causes are all over the map in a single bug doesn't get us too far. See you in the new bugs. :) 2.0 regression possibilities: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/buglist.cgi?query_format=advanced&short_desc_type=allwordssubstr&short_desc=filter+&product=Core&product=Thunderbird&component=Mail+Window+Front+End&component=MailNews%3A+Filters&version=1.8+Branch&version=2.0&long_desc_type=substring&long_desc=folder&bug_file_loc_type=allwordssubstr&bug_file_loc=&status_whiteboard_type=allwordssubstr&status_whiteboard=&keywords_type=allwords&keywords=&resolution=FIXED&resolution=DUPLICATE&resolution=---&op_sys=All&op_sys=Windows+95&op_sys=Windows+98&op_sys=Windows+ME&op_sys=Windows+NT&op_sys=Windows+2000&op_sys=Windows+XP&op_sys=Windows+Server+2003&op_sys=Windows+Vista&op_sys=Windows+CE&op_sys=Mac+System+7&op_sys=Mac+System+7.5&op_sys=Mac+System+7.6.1&op_sys=Mac+System+8.0&op_sys=Mac+System+8.5&op_sys=Mac+System+8.6&op_sys=Mac+System+9.x&op_sys=Mac+OS+X&op_sys=Linux&op_sys=BSDI&op_sys=FreeBSD&op_sys=NetBSD&op_sys=OpenBSD&op_sys=AIX&op_sys=BeOS&op_sys=HP-UX&op_sys=IRIX&op_sys=Neutrino&op_sys=OpenVMS&op_sys=OS%2F2&op_sys=OSF%2F1&op_sys=SunOS&op_sys=Solaris&op_sys=OpenSolaris&op_sys=Other&emailassigned_to1=1&emailtype1=exact&email1=&emailassigned_to2=1&emailreporter2=1&emailqa_contact2=1&emailtype2=exact&email2=&bugidtype=include&bug_id=&votes=&chfieldfrom=300d&chfieldto=Now&chfield=%5BBug+creation%5D&chfieldvalue=&cmdtype=doit&order=Reuse+same+sort+as+last+time&field0-0-0=noop&type0-0-0=noop&value0-0-0= other possibilities https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/buglist.cgi?query_format=advanced&short_desc_type=allwordssubstr&short_desc=&product=Core&product=Firefox&product=Mozilla+Application+Suite&product=Thunderbird&product=Toolkit&component=MailNews%3A+Filters&long_desc_type=substring&long_desc=&bug_file_loc_type=allwordssubstr&bug_file_loc=&status_whiteboard_type=allwordssubstr&status_whiteboard=&keywords_type=allwords&keywords=&resolution=---&bug_severity=blocker&bug_severity=critical&bug_severity=major&bug_severity=normal&bug_severity=minor&bug_severity=trivial&op_sys=All&op_sys=Windows+95&op_sys=Windows+98&op_sys=Windows+ME&op_sys=Windows+NT&op_sys=Windows+2000&op_sys=Windows+XP&op_sys=Windows+Server+2003&op_sys=Windows+Vista&op_sys=Windows+CE&op_sys=Mac+System+7&op_sys=Mac+System+7.5&op_sys=Mac+System+7.6.1&op_sys=Mac+System+8.0&op_sys=Mac+System+8.5&op_sys=Mac+System+8.6&op_sys=Mac+System+9.x&op_sys=Mac+OS+X&op_sys=Linux&op_sys=BSDI&op_sys=FreeBSD&op_sys=NetBSD&op_sys=OpenBSD&op_sys=AIX&op_sys=BeOS&op_sys=HP-UX&op_sys=IRIX&op_sys=Neutrino&op_sys=OpenVMS&op_sys=OS%2F2&op_sys=OSF%2F1&op_sys=SunOS&op_sys=Solaris&op_sys=OpenSolaris&op_sys=Other&emailassigned_to1=1&emailtype1=exact&email1=&emailassigned_to2=1&emailreporter2=1&emailqa_contact2=1&emailtype2=exact&email2=&bugidtype=include&bug_id=&votes=&chfieldfrom=&chfieldto=Now&chfieldvalue=&cmdtype=doit&order=Reuse+same+sort+as+last+time&field0-0-0=noop&type0-0-0=noop&value0-0-0=
