User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.6) Gecko/20050317 Firefox/1.0.2
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.6) Gecko/20050317 Firefox/1.0.2

On the page at http://news.ninemsn.com.au/ this version of Firefox crashes
consistently as the page loads. By 'crash' I mean that the page starts to
render, images start to appear, but before the page can form completely the
program very quickly closes and disappears from view. Pages already displaying
in other tabs were plain text and had been static for some time, so there is no
doubt that the page at http://news.ninemsn.com.au/ is the offender.

I have never seen this before, and this page is one I have frequently visited
before loading this latest version of Firefox.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Visit http://news.ninemsn.com.au/
2. Watch as the page loads. Don't blink or you will miss the very quick crash
3. Scratch your head in wonder, as I did.

Actual Results:
I was left looking at my desktop. No error message, no offer to report the error
to microsoft or mozilla, no nothing. When I restarted the browser the page was
in the browser history, but there were no signs of anything out of the ordinary.
It simply looked like a new session.

Expected Results:
I was expecting Firefox to simply load up the page.

I want to be as helpful as I can, but can't offer anything more than the above.
It is a simple matter of trying to display the page, then losing the entire browser.

What version of Sun Java is installed on your computer?
Not reproducible if Java VM is not installed, perhaps this is a plugin issue.
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b2) Gecko/20050323
Using Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment 1.4.2_07
Page loads OK using IE6 SP2, which uses same version of Java(TM) 2 Runtime
Environment 1.4.2_07.

Viewing the page source I see no java on the page.....

Yet the problem remains in Firefox 1.0.2.
You were indeed correct. Although I could not repeat the crash in IE, I was able
to resolve by uninstalling the Java 1.4.2_07 plug-in and in its place installing
Java 1.5.0_01-b08 (which installs with LimeWire if you let it).

So it is reasonable to conclude that the conflict is with Java 1.4.2_07 and
Firefox 1.0.2.

Problem is that Java 1.4.2_07 is Sun's latest release. I was directed to the Sun
download site after testing Firefox at http://bcheck.scanit.be/bcheck/ so
potentially there will be lots of Firefox users who are directed likewise and
will encounter this conflict. I think the issue is still worth investigating and
reolving.

Cheers,
Gary.

Lists v5.0 as the current version, also know as v1.5.0_2.
Gary: Could you provide Talkback incident ID of your crash?
Keywords: crash
Adam, with respect, I do not know what you mean by "Talkback incident ID" of the
crash. Can you please spell that out for me, as I don't understand? Sorry.

FYI I have not experienced any further crashes since upgrading Java to the
version mentioned previously.

Cheers,
Gary.
Sorry, I don't see any evidence of the Talkback thing on my browser.
