When I select View|Threads|Unread (note: this is not "Threads with unread")
together with View|Sort by|Threaded, then all mail messages that are part of a
thread get a thread symbol drawn next to them. This happens even if only one
message of that thread is unread, so that trying to expand that thread does not
show any result.

Choosing "Unread" in the View dropdown does not show this bug.

Hm... I tried on an IMAP server, in local folders and in a newsgroup, and could
reproduce (no local changes in mailnews/)...

Which product/version were you using ?
Can you reproduce with SeaMonkey v1.1.9 ?
Can you reproduce with SeaMonkey v2.0a1pre ?
