i'm reading several high-traffic (300-400messages/day) newsgroups..
but i always use the "ignore" feature to kill most of the uninteresting threads,
so the amount of messages i really want-to/have-to read is quite low.

i use a laptop and travel a lot, so i usually at work download all the
newsgroup-messages, and read them in the train.

for this i use the offline-mode.

problem is that when downloading the newsgroup-content, thunderbird still
downloads ALL the messages..means he downloads 500messages, of which let's say
440 are ignored.

i'd like to have a switch to be able to set "don't download the body of ignored
messages"

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.subscribe to a high-traffic newsgroup
2.kill (ignore) most of the threads
3.mark this newsgroup-folder for offline use
4.go-offline (which causes the newsgroup messages to be downloaded)

Actual Results:
thunderbird will download the message-bodies for ALL the messages (not just for
the not-ignored ones)

Expected Results:
i should be able to tell thunderbird that he shouldn't make the ignored messages
available for offline use, so that when i go offline, only the not-ignored
message's bodies are downloaded.
confirming, but likely a core:? issue

I was considering starting a new thread, but I think my problem might be part of your problem as well, Gabor.

In some of my UseNet groups, I have set "Ignore Thread" on some of the threads in which I am not interested. No problem!

However, now, when I have read all the visible messages in a group, I am left with with a message count showing some unread messages in the group. I'm guessing this is because the threads I've marked to be ignored are just being removed from my view, rather than actually having all the messages posted to the thread, previously *AND* into the future, being marked as read as well as being invisible to me.

If this were to happen, Gabor would only be downloading the messages he were interested in!!

~~Bug 448776~~ Bug 448876 is most likely what you want. That's an entirely different issue altogether.

On another note:

This would be a MailNews Core: Networking: News bug.
Component: General → Networking: News
Product: Thunderbird → MailNews Core
QA Contact: general → networking.news
Sorry, Joshua, but my situation is, as you suggest, to do with MailNews core and has nothing whatsoever to do with Bug 448776, which is related to FireFox!

Gabor has quoted the User Agent & Build Identifier as being Firefox, but in the actual description Gabor mentions Thunderbird.

As I am have the same situation with SeaMonkey 1.1.12, this lends weight to Wayne Merys suggestion that this might be a MailNews Core problem
