Details

20050325 trunk When I first log in to my Web host's Cpanel, Firefox throws the log in dialog which includes the checkbox to have the login stored in the password manager. If I log in successfully with that box checked, Firefox does indeed remember the password. HOWEVER, if I log out of Cpanel, and back in again, Firefox clears the stored password from the password manager without my permission. I suspect that the method use to log out of Cpanel is causing Firefox to clear the stored data out of the password manager, but that should never happen without explicit user instruction.
I find it disconcerting that there is a method for a site to clear my password cache without my permission. This is still happening.
I think it's a case where trying to be helpful is hurtful. It looks lik Firefox is trying to be helpful by removing a stored login when using it fails. The way the cpanel application works is that after you log out, the next http auth request will fail. Presumably this is to cause the browser to prompt for the password again. In Firefox's case, it makes the browser drop the password from Password Manager. This isn't good for me. I have to be very careful not to log in twice during the same session lest I lose my logon info.
I have the same problem with firefox 1.5 and mozilla 1.8.0. In site using phpmyadmin, when I log in, the password for is stored correctly in the password list. But it's erased as soon as I clik on Log out in phpmyadmin. And if multiple passwords are stored for the same site, they are all erased at once. As long as I don't log out through the phpmyadmin interface the passwords stay in the list.
