I had win98a and used Firefox and ThunderBird without the problems. After 
UPGRADING (not installing) to WinXP the Firefox (Thunderbird as well) got such 
apperance - black text on white areas and no image in menus or any other object 
on the screen . I've tried to reinstall several times, washed up registries but 
it didn't help. 
I found this bug somewhat similar to bug # 272283

Reproducible: Always

Actual Results:  
After Upgrading to WinXP i just started Firefox and got such view. It happened 
and after reinstallation and after complete remove of Firefox
Looks like bug 269130, please reopen if  you disagree
