On a Win 98, 200 MHz, Pentium Pro, 64mg RAM machine; Build 2000022108, startup time is: Launch 9:14 sec/Re-launch 5:63 sec for 4.72 Launch 45:32 sec/Re-launch 29:73 sec for Seamonkey We need to figure out why and fix for beta1.

Putting on [Jan Daily] radar

I think we need to get this up for beta.
Severity: normal → critical
Status: NEW → ASSIGNED
Priority: P3 → P1
Target Milestone: M14
Need to investigate. If we cannot get improved for beta in time, we will not hold for Win98 startup time only (Win 95 and NT doing better).

Performance is important... but unless we have a big ratio to 4.x, we have to PDT- this for beta on 3/3 and really clear the radar to do final cleanup.

The startup slowdown has been introduced recently. I used to be able to bring up Mozilla (M13) in about 6.6 seconds (immediately following the booting of my Win98 333Mhz 64mg system). On the 2/29/00 version it is taking me 17+ seconds to bring up Mozilla.
I average about 30 seconds to load mozilla (Win98, PII, 400 MHz, using the M14 milestone), vs. 10 seconds for Communicator, and 5 for IE5.
Per whiteboard transition date of 3/3, I'm downgrading this to PDT- for beta1. We did a lot of good work... and I believe Netscape marketing is willing to ship a beta1 at the current level. Good work by the team!!! :-)

This was due to the enabling of page load timing measurement in the release builds. Things came back to normal once we turned that off.
