I would like Firefox to remember my HTTP proxy authentication password but not
prompt to remember passwords on web sites for which I've not already stored a
password, basically because I find the "Yes/Never For This Site/No" dialog box
annoying.

If I uncheck the master "remember passwords" preference, it stops the previously
stored values from being automatically entered in the proxy authentication
dialog, so this is not what I want.

Features that could achieve what I want:
- have separate preferences for web sites and proxy server passwords
- allow disabling of remembering passwords for sites not already in the password
manager
- allow entering of a wildcard for never remember password sites

Are any of these planned?

Checked while verifying other proxy auth changes, this WFM now.

You'll need to have "remember passwords" enabled the first time you authenticate to a proxy (so you get prompted to save the proxy login), but then you can disable. Future proxy prompts will still be autofilled.
