User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.6) Gecko/20050317 Firefox/1.0.2 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.6) Gecko/20050317 Firefox/1.0.2 When I was trying to download softwares from certain websites like www.lighttek.com and www.softpedia.com, the firefox automatically closed! But when I used Tabs, it always ask "You are about to close XX open tabs..." which means it'll close once I click Ok button. It repeatedly asked me that "You are about to close XX open tabs..." thing everytime when I clicked cancel button. What does this mean?? Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Go to http://www.lighttek.com/themes/themes.php 2.click the green Download box(blow the "Download sites: " to download the theme 3. Actual Results: 1. Firefox automatically closed. 2. When I use Tabs, it repeatedl asks "You are about to close XX open tabs..." everytime when I clicked cancel button. Expected Results: Firefox should be directed to the download site.

works for me. Did they maybe fix a bug on their site? What extensions do you have loaded? Do you get the same results if you run in safe mode? (command-line: firefox -safe-mode). It's not a security bug if the site can close its own window (though by default we prevent this annoyance). It shouldn't be able to shut down the entire app though. A crash can shut down the app, but that wouldn't be so nice about giving you the tab-closing warning. Pretty odd, need more info about what might be different in your setup.

I tried safe mode but still not working. I didn't use any extensions. I installed firefox normally. My friend also experiences this problem and I wonder why, is it because of the version of my windows(Xp sp2)? When I use Linux(Suse), I don't experience the annoying "closing windows/tab-closing warning". The procedure is the same way(Steps to produce).

Doesn't sound like a security hole serious enough to keep hidden. Opening to the public to see if anyone else can reproduce.

I am having this issue with Gentoo linux: uname -a 2.6.15-ck3-r1 #2 Wed Feb 22 02:36:32 IST 2006 i686 AMD Athlon(tm) XP 3200+ AuthenticAMD GNU/Linux build from source: www-client/mozilla-firefox-1.5.0.1-r1 example: go to http://www.dr.dk/P2/Mozart250/download/20060116133853.htm click the "Ekstragod kvalitet - 26 mb " silent crash PLS change to NEW and OS to ALL
nivw2002@fastmail.fm: your problem is *entirely* unrelated and stems from some sucky plugin that's failing to play an mp3 file. reporter: does this happen if you use firefox1.5*/seamonkey1.0*? also if it does, if you could install the venkman extension and have it open, that'd help matters. i believe that when you get the close dialog, you should be able to switch to venkman and try to figure out what's going on (hopefully if you get this far, someone in #mozillazine on irc could hold your hand through the process) - note that if you get the dialog and venkman has already decided to go away, you can probably run: (firefox|seamonkey) -venkman and get it to come back. dveditz: after thinking about this a bit, i think the user has asked the site to give him a firefox theme which firefox thinks he wants to install and use. in order to use a new theme (or any theme), you must restart, so firefox offers to do so. dveditz: to help the rest of us out, please detail what steps you took and what results you got, it doesn't help that neither your steps nor the reporters were detailed enough for me to figure out what was going on :(.

The page does not list firefox themes, but themes for a windows shell replacement (Lighttek's Talisman). Most of the links I could find either just went to normal webpages or tried to download zip files so tentatively moving this to the download manager.

I think this should be closed WFM unless someone can list steps and and machine setup that lead to a crash. For all we know even the original reporter doesn't crash anymore on a newer version of Firefox (I'm surprised this bug didn't EXPIRE).
